Herbal Medicine
|
|
Herbs can have a very profound
healing effect on the body. There are herbs for every system in the body and there
are organ specific herbs. The herbs are available in liquid form, tablets, capsules
and powder. The liquid herbs (usual in alcohol) work the quickest, for example I
have had a serious cystitis attack where I could not stand up or sit down from the
pain and within 20 minutes the herbs completely resolved it. The liquid herbs usually
don’t taste very good, but when you are sick it is amazing that they almost taste
nice, as if your body senses that the herbs are going to be beneficial.

There
are many herbs that are
very suitable to assist the body in detoxification either during and after illness
or once or twice a year with a general detox.

There are also herbs that
can assist the body in overcoming colds and flues as well as more serious respiratory
and urinary tract infections such as tonsillitis, otitis media (middle ear infection),
bronchitis, cystitis and lung infections. Thyme and Sage (see picture) for example are very good herbs for the throat. These herbs can both easily be grown in the garden and used to make an infusion (like a tea) that can be gargled for throat infections. Not only are there special herbs with
anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-worms or anti-bacterial properties, the best news
is that (as long as they are given in the right dose) they usually have no negative
side-effects! On top of that many of those same herbs have an immune-modulating
effect, in other words they improve the function of the immune system, helping your
body to fight the intruder.

Pharmaceutical antibiotics are non-selective, which means they kill
the beneficial, friendly bacteria in your bowel along with the bad bacteria in your body/gut. Fortunately herbs do not kill the good bacteria in your
bowel as their anti-bacterial effect comes from
improving your body’s natural responses to invading bacteria. |

When you recover from an illness herbs will help the immune system to be in a better
shape than before the illness, so that you feel healthier and more energised than
before. Instead after a course of Pharmaceutical antibiotics people complain often that
they feel tired and because their immune system is suppressed they are more susceptible
to the next virus that comes along. When children under the age of two have had
Pharmaceutical antibiotics they tend to have a higher chance of having a negative
reaction to Vaccinations. The safety guidelines by Merck Pharmaceuticals for the MMR Vaccine:
ProQuad state that ProQuad should not be administered to certain individuals, including those with
any of the following: a immunodeficient condition or those receiving immuno-suppressive
therapy (such as antibiotics). For more information please go to:

Herbs are also beneficial for bowel function. Whether you have diarrhoea or constipation,
there are herbs that can encourage the tissue to tighten or relax or for people
who alternate there are herbs that regulate the bowel movements and tone the tissue.
Herbs have also proven to be helpful in:
*
arthritic conditions by improving the blood supply to the joints and oiling the
joints
*
alkalising the system
*
help improve kidney function
*
calming the nervous system
*
assisting the respiratory system
